Elopements

Kings Gap Elopement in Pennsylvania | Tom + Rebekah

April 12, 2026

There are some weddings that stick with me because of the venue, the details, or the way everything came together, and then there are weddings that stay with me because of the people. Tom and Rebekah’s Kings Gap elopement was absolutely the second kind.

I’ve known Tom for years. We originally met through airsoft, which is honestly such a random little full-circle detail in this story, but he has always been one of those people who is funny, easygoing, and completely himself. So when he reached out to tell me he was getting married, I was excited before I even knew what the day would look like. Then I found out that he and Rebekah were planning to elope at Kings Gap with basically no one there except an officiant and me, and somehow that felt incredibly fitting.

The original plan was actually to keep the whole thing a secret, although at some point they ended up telling everyone, so the secret part didn’t quite survive. 😂 But they still kept the day small and simple, and it never felt like anything was missing. It was just the two of them getting married in a place they loved, doing exactly what they wanted to do, and starting this next part of their lives together.

An Intimate Kings Gap Elopement in Central Pennsylvania

Kings Gap is one of those places that already feels a little different before you even get to the top. You wind your way up the mountain, the trees start closing in around you, and then suddenly you’re standing there looking out over the Cumberland Valley with this beautiful stone mansion behind you and what feels like half of Pennsylvania stretched out in front of you.

Tom and Rebekah had their ceremony outside with that view behind them, and because there wasn’t a packed timeline or a hundred people waiting for what came next, the whole thing felt incredibly calm. They were able to actually be in it. After the ceremony, we wandered around for portraits, took our time, and let the day unfold without needing to rush from one thing to another, which is honestly one of the things I love most about photographing smaller weddings and elopements.

There was space to breathe, to laugh, to soak it in, and to let the day feel like more than a checklist of things that needed to happen.

A Wedding Day That Felt Completely Like Them

One of my favorite things about their elopement was how little they cared about what a wedding was “supposed” to look like.

There was no elaborate dinner waiting for them afterward, no fancy dessert table, and no pressure to make the day look a certain way just because they were getting married. They brought chicken fingers and a Dairy Queen ice cream cake up the mountain because that is what they wanted to eat, and I honestly love that more than I can explain.

There is so much pressure around weddings to do things because that’s what everyone else does, or because it photographs well, or because Pinterest has somehow convinced us that every decision needs to fit into a theme. Tom and Rebekah’s day was the complete opposite of that. It felt personal because they weren’t trying to make it anything other than what felt good to them.

And really, that is the whole point.

Sunset, “More Than a Feeling,” and One of My Favorite First Dances

Their first dance is probably the moment I’ll remember most.

They chose “More Than a Feeling” by Boston, and watching them dance together on top of the mountain as the sun started getting lower behind them was one of those moments where I had to remind myself that I was supposed to be photographing instead of just standing there getting emotional.

There was no dance floor, no DJ, no crowd of people gathered around them. It was just the two of them laughing and dancing together, completely wrapped up in their own little world, while the light changed around them.

And I don’t know, maybe it was because I’ve known Tom for so long, or maybe it was because the whole day had been so quiet and intentional, but it hit me harder than I expected. It was genuinely one of the sweetest first dances I’ve ever photographed, and there was something about watching someone I’ve known through completely different seasons of life stand there with the person he chose that made me a little emotional behind the camera.

Okay, very emotional. Whatever. 😂

More Than Just the Two of Them

What made the day even more meaningful was knowing that this wasn’t only about Tom and Rebekah becoming husband and wife. They each have a child, so they’re also bringing two families together and stepping into something bigger than just the two of them.

I think that’s part of why I felt so invested in this one. I’ve known Tom long enough that seeing him happy and knowing he found someone as genuinely sweet as Rebekah made me ridiculously happy for him, and getting to be there to document the beginning of this next chapter meant more to me than I expected it to.

There are some weddings where I leave thinking about how beautiful everything looked, and there are others where I leave thinking about how much I just genuinely like the people I spent the day with. This was one of those.

Planning a Kings Gap Elopement in Pennsylvania?

If you’re considering a Pennsylvania elopement, I think Tom and Rebekah’s day is such a good reminder that it doesn’t have to fit into any particular mold.

You can have a ceremony and a first dance and cake if those things matter to you. You can bring your kids, invite your closest people, or keep it completely private. You can hike somewhere beautiful, rent a cabin, get married at the top of a mountain, or bring chicken fingers and an ice cream cake because that sounds like a pretty great way to celebrate getting married.

It doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s version of an elopement. It just has to feel like yours.

And if you’re planning a Kings Gap elopement, an intimate wedding somewhere in Central Pennsylvania, or something that looks a little different from the traditional wedding day, I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming up.
